How large can a folder be to copy to the site?  It seems all of my files are not being copied the larger the folder.

I am trying to delete our one web application and use Avepoint to restor it.  During the deletion I recieved this error.  "An update conflict has occurred, and you must re-try this action. The object SPWebApplication Name=mhsweb Parent=SPWebService is being updated by ??????\mossservice, in the OWSTIMER process, on machine ???-SHARE-WEB2.  View the tracing log for more information...

Client is using XP SP2 with IE6 Sp2.

 

As the url lenght increses the explorer view fails with error "page can not be displayed".

 

Unable to find fix for IE6 SP2 to resolve long URL issue.

I have a document that is buried in the Folders and every time someone opens it, it only only in Read Only mode.

 

We have the same document that is not as deep in the directories and can open it just fine.

 

Is there a limit to the directory structure or number of character to link to the file?

All of a sudden I can no longer export a list into Excel. I have tried on Vista with Office 2007 and on XP with Office 2003. My admin has checked all settings and doesn't know why it won't work for me. Other people at my office are able to export. I get a message within Excel that says: Cannot connect to the server at this time. Changes to your data cannot be saved.

Now that you are using IE 7.0, which is tab-based, your SharePoint program is expecting to open a new Tab in IE.  I suspect you have turned off the Tab view option in IE.  Go to IE Properties and activate the Tabs again and it should work.  The other solution is to revert back to IE 6 (which is what I did).

Typically, MS discourages storing Access files in SharePoint, as SharePoint does not know what to do with the lock file. Only store the file as a ZIPd file intending for the user to deploy the file on a file share or their local drive.

I have a high level folder named "Personal" (this is just an example). This folder holds Read,View only permissions.

 

I have multiple folders under "Personal" e.g. ASP, CSharp,Flash and so on.

 

When I log on with System Admin account, I have set Contribute, Read & View only permissions (to say Personal Group) to all the folders that exist under "Personal".

I'm getting the following error....not on all my computers.  Wondering if I'm missing some plug-in, add-in etc.??

I seem to be having trouble attaching workflow to some user profile fields. What i want, for example, is for some fields to need to be approved by the manager before they are saved. i.e joe bloggs edits his profile and tries to update his staff id, then an email get emailed to his manager to deny or approve this change.

I have MOSS 2007. Frequently sharepoint will ask for login credentials when
going to the site, opening a document, etc even though it should be (and is)
getting the credentials from Windows. Usually I can just hit Cancel to the
login prompt and I can get in/open the document or do whatever I was doing.
This does not always happen, however. Sometimes it doesn't prompt me and
lets me through as it should...

Depends on if a given site is marked as being trusted. Check your IE security settings to find out what sites might be in a given zone.

Make sure the SPS site is part of the Intranet Zone and not Internet Zone. Also, make sure that the User Authentication in Security settings of IE is set to Automatic Logon using current username and password.

this is the scenario :

user post the request and if this user are from Department IT it will
notify the IT manager and ask him to aprove it .. if the user are from
department Admin .. it will notify the Admin manager to aprove it

so i create the workflow using sharepoint Designer .. the problem
is .. the workflow as i see cannot read a column from the user
profile...

I'd like to attach a link to an image that I have placed on one of my pages.  I'm currently using the Image Web part to place the image, but am open to changing the type of web part if that is what it will take to solve the issue.  I'm strictly using Sharepoint, not Frontpage.

You can do this virtually pages and Web part with a simple workaround.

When I create the PDF it asks me where to store it. I have a shortcut to my sharepoint drive and select it. I cannot see the sharepoint folders and Adobe says it cannot connect to sharepoint (other applications can).

I want to conditionally alter the style of the web part header, for some web parts i would want to have a rounded corner, whereas for some i want to have the normal rectangle headers.

You could use PageLayouts for this. Override the css file for the webpart appearance. So if you create a page of one kind it gets different appearance than other pages depending on the different css file. Just use @import("<path to css>"); in the page layout and you will get a good result.

Is there a way in which you can restrict the list of contact in People and Groups?    I understand how to restrict people having access to the subwebs.  My issue is how can I keep the people who use one subweb from knowing who can use other subwebs.  We use subwebs as client workspaces and even knowing who our clients are is an abridgement of their privacy.  I feel certain...

I use page viewer on my site to display reports from other websites.  I would like these embedded sites to display only the report, not the navigation template/menus.  I had a url modifier that worked for 1 site in particular, but I can't get it to work on any other ones (see below.)  Does anyone have a solution for this?  Thanks!

We are able to edit the fields of a list in sharepoint. However, after exporting to excel, some users are experiencing an issue when trying to edit these same fields and are unable to do so. They receive and error "The [field] is a read-only column that cannot be modified". Permissions appear to be fine and they can edit the list fields fine as long as they are in sharepoint. Any ideas?
